MCHS Vocal Music Staff

Joel Everist is Director of Choral Activities for Mason City High School. Under his direction the Concert Choir has earned 22 First Place and 8 Grand Champion finishes at national competitions; appeared at Carnegie Hall; Lincoln Center; The Kennedy Center; Chicago’s Orchestra Hall; ACDA Regional & State Conventions; as well as a performance for Vice President Gore with the Prime Minister of Japan at the State Department in Washington D.C. He received a B.A. degree from Gustavus Adolphus College, and a Master of Music Education degree from Northwestern University. Everist was named as one of the national Top 10 "Directors of Note" by Choral Director magazine; conducted the Ninth Grade ICDA Opus Honor Choir; served on the ICDA Board of Directors and chaired the ICDA State Convention.

Sarah Bouska is Associate Conductor for Mason City High School where she directs the Treble Clef Chorus, Varsity Show Choir and two sections of Mixed Chorus. A cum laude graduate of Wartburg College, she earned a B.M.E. in music education and recently completed a Master of Education degree from Morningside College. Bouska was Assistant Director for Dr. Paul Torkelson, conducting the Wartburg Choir on tour and has worked at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. She is listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
Rachel Everist is instructor of music at North Iowa Area Community College and serves as staff accompanist for the Mason City High School Vocal Music Department. Previously she taught piano at Wartburg College. A cum laude graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College, she has also studied at the Northwestern University Graduate School of Music. Everist has performed in hundreds of recitals, both as soloist and accompanist, including an appearance on Guatemala National Television.
